Hand Warming Stash Busting

Continuing with my quest to reduce my yarn stash by half, I picked up this amazing book by Robin Melanson called Knitting New Mittens and Gloves. I love handwarmers, mittens and gloves, I suffer from very cold hands (& feet) and I have made my self several pairs, I’ve also made quite a few pairs as gifts. This book is full of beautiful designs for keeping my poor hands warm and as they don’t take too much yarn, they are pretty good stash busting items.

To start with I picked the patten called Poppy, for these cute ruffled gloves.

ooh my hands are feeling warmer just looking at these gloves

Knit with a mystery double knit yarn, the ruffles are made with what I assume is some kind of mohair blend, but I have no idea as they were unbanded yarns given to me by my boyfriend’s mum when I first took up knitting, and there was the possibility that the yarns were older than me, having lived in their attic since my boyfriend was a baby! I think the mohair was thicker than the pattern required, but this thickness just makes the cuff extra warming and I am so pleased to have used up 3 balls of mystery yarn, I am now well on my way with my stash busting quest!

I will definitely make these gloves again, but not when I am stash busting, I would love to splurge on a ball of luxury yarn to make these up with, something super soft.

There is so much in this book that I want to knit, I have already pulled out some chunky yarns from my stash to knit up a pair of mittens with kilt fasteners attached to the wrists, so watch this space!
