Christmas Cakes Part One

Forgive the poor photos, but I can’t find the charger for the camera so these were snapped quickly on the boyfriend’s iphone.

Here are 2 of the 3 christmas cakes I’ve made this year, these were both presents for our nans. This is my 2nd year of baking christmas cakes and I think I found the icing easier this time round, although I was a week late getting them into the oven and so the decorating was a bit rushed and squeezed into after work moments.

First up we have the cake for the boyfriend’s nan:

christmas cake #1

I did kind of cheat with the decorating of this one, I was sooooo tired and my icing roses just weren’t working out, but there was a deadline to meet, so I used some cupcake decorations and tied a ribbon round the cake, still quite pretty though.

christmas cake #2

Another decorating failure with this one, I did try to make a green bow for the top out of the icing, but it just wouldn’t hold its shape, I need more practice I guess, and it would probably be handy to find a course of some kind in the area… nevermind, my nan loved this cake although I know the icing and the marzipan will be peeled away from the cake and thrown away, but where’s the fun in just giving a plain christmas cake?

I still have one more cake left to decorate, I managed to get the marzipan on last night, but won’t have a chance to ice it til christmas eve morning, talk about cutting it close!

Merry christmas everyone xxx
